Primary Research Questionnaire 1Primary Research Questionnaire 2 |
This is a questionnaire that I created to send to a professional Singer to ask questions about how she writes lyrics. This is to help me with my research for Project 3.
Answers to Questionnaire 1 from Josie Malone-Griffiths (Coyote Kings) 1) I get my inspiration from life experiences, dreams and emotion. 2) You need to be able to get the right vibe from the music you are writing for. It helps if you are good at rhyming and writing poems. 3) Working as part of a team i.e a collaboration and my husbands music. 4) The music influences the lyrics as I don't write lyrics. 5) We have used Tunecore to release our music. We pay an annual fee and our music gets distributed to all the major platforms such as iTunes, Spotify etc. Band website: http://www.thecoyotekings.com Links to songs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7JBhYLfC50 This is a questionnaire that I created to send to a professional Composer to ask questions about how he creates his songs. Ludwig van Beethoven - Composer
Home Town: Bonn (now part of Germany) Born: 18/12/1770 Died: 26/03/1827 Beethoven was one of the most amazing classical composers of all time. From an early age he was introduced to music by his father. His father was also his teacher and he was very strict. If Beethoven failed at whatever he was doing, he was beaten by his father. He was recognised by someone called Count Ferdinand Ernst Gabriel von Waldstein. This person sponsored Beethoven which enabled him to travel to Vienna which is where the great Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart lived. Beethoven was inspired by Mozart but noone actually knows if they ever met with each over. In time, Mozart shortly died but then Beethoven spent time with the composer Joseph Haydn. Beethoven learnt new things. In his mid-life, his deafness and stomach pains created something of a spiritual crisis in Beethoven. He stopped attending Mass regularly and looked to a wider source of spiritual inspiration. And yet despite deafness and the frustration of all he had to put up with, Beethoven plodded on and he carried on to compose music of his highest standard. Due to his deafness he was not able to perform with an orchestral backing. Reference https://www.biographyonline.net/famous-composers/ |

Ed Sheeran - Songwriter
Hometown: Halifax, UK Born: 17/02/91 Ed Sheeran became very famous from quite a young age. He began to play the guitar and soon after he began to start writing his own songs. In his teens, he moved to London where he moved forward in his music career which gave him a burst of creativity. This added up to making several early EP’s (Extended Play) and he attend several live shows. This was great as it drew loads of attention for his performances. They were amazing and he went to No. 1 several times before he signed up to a record label called Atlantic Records. Since being with Atlantic Records, he has sold millions of records and his song, “I See Fire” also appeared in the second film in The Hobbit trilogy. He also won a Grammy for two of his songs. In 2014, Ed Sheeran won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year with “Thinking Out Loud“ and the Best Pop Solo Performance in 2017 for “Shape Of You”. In 2010, he headed off to the U.S where he appeared on the Jamie Foxx radio show. In 2011, he released another EP, this hit No. 2 on the iTunes chart. While being with Atlantic Records, he released his major debut album which sold over a million copies in the United Kingdom in the first 6 months alone. Ed Sheeran got his influences from Rap music and the tempo he uses ranges from 45 - 168 BPM (Beats Per Minute). His songs tend to follow a similar structure to verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus. The form I am using in my song is intro-verse-instrumental-verse-instrumental-verse-instrumental-verse-instrumental-chorus-chorus-outro. I used this form of structure because it worked better with my lyrics and backing track. Ed Sheeran’s lyrics are written around relationships and family, this is very similar to my lyrics as this evokes the strongest emotions within me.
